SIZING AND COLOUR

EXTRA SMALL, SMALL, MEDIUM, LARGE AND EXTRA LARGE

If I had a quid for every time someone says 'oh I never knew they were so big' the charity would be flourishing. Quite often folk are thinking about whippets (the smaller version), so we thought it might be a good idea to dedicate a section to size and colour. Hopefully this might give you a better idea of the variety. Mind you we usually find when someone is adopting a rescue greyhound the last thing they are bothered about is colour or sex but very often size can be an issue.

Bitches are, of course, always smaller but often a small dog and a large bitch can be very similar, below we have:-

Left - black and white - bitch and dog you will see the difference in height. On the right side we have two males - black and white - white and black.

Two fawn bitches, the one of the left being extra small and the one on the right medium sized for a bitch.

Turk and Squibby are examples of white and brindle dogs. Turk on the left is a medium sized dog whereas Squibby would be termed as small for a male.

These are various sized black dogs, most blacks will have a touch of white on and will usually prematurely grey making them appear older than they are.

Blue and white is a very attractive colour mix the blue really being similar to slate grey.

Above we have a selection of brindles, left we have an red brindle - on the right what is termed as blue brindle and then a darker brindle.

The selection of colours is endless , white, blue, black, brindle, fawn, and they can all be reversed as in brindle and white, white and brindle according to how much of each colour they have in them and which is the most predominant colour.

Above we have two white and fawn dogs (the hat comes as an extra!!!). Then below is a nearly pure white dog with just a bit of brindle on the ear.

These are just some photos of some of the colours and below we list approximate sizes

FEMALES

Extra small approximately 25 inches 63 cm

Small approximately 26 inches 66cm

Medium approximately 26.5 inches 67 cm

Large approximately 27 inches 69 cm

MALES

Extra large approximately 29.5 inches 75 cm upwards

Large approximately 29 inches 74 cm

Medium approximately 28.5 inches 72 cm

Small approximately 27 inches 69 cm

We hope this gives you some idea of what you are looking at with size and colour and once again we invite you to call at the Sanctuary so as you can judge for yourselves
