Local
Artist Cate Hamilton
A
chance meeting...

Many
people would have known our beloved Pyder Mann
was a PAT dog (Pets As Therapy) before his sudden
death on 2nd June 2007.
His
legacy was to charm a lady called Cate Hamilton,
whom we met at a PAT dog event.
Our
second encounter was at a very soggy event, the
Foire de Jersey. There, Cate was charmed once
again by Pyder and more of our greyhounds. So
much so that she took photos of them.
We
became friends and soon discovered that Cate was
immensely talented and versatile - an
accomplished artist in many forms.
Cate
emailed us a picture of ' a quick doodle' she'd
made of a photo of Pyder and this was the
pencilled sketch you can see below. We are so
grateful to have this as days after completion
Pyder Mann died. As a memorial Cate gave us this
wonderful picture. We treasure this portrait and
it is on display at all our events as an example
of her exceptional work.
Cate
wants to use her talent to help the plight of
greyhounds and has decided that she would very
much like to donate 10% of her dog portrait
commissions to Greyhound Rescue to help our
cause.

Cate's art work
speaks for itself.

On a recent visit
to our sanctuary Cate came armed with camera. It
was an extra special day as the famous Mr Padz
came visiting too. Since his back problems Mr P
had been confined to barracks, so of course he
was extremely excitable. Once again Cate worked
her magic and took a photo of a very happy Mr
Padz and the resulting sketch is truly amazing!

Cate is a huge fan
of horses and is known at our local Horse Racing
Club for her fine equestrian portraits. Cate
donates a percentage of her commission to
Greatwood who care for retired race horses.

The plight of both
the greyhound and horse racing industries share
many similarities. We would like to share one
poignant quote in particular from Greatwood's
site as it is something we hope applies to
retired race horses and greyhounds alike:
'THE
FINISHING LINE IS ONLY THE BEGINNING'
