WIZ & SILKS BECOME BEAVERS FOR THE NIGHT

St Ouen's Beavers

Who would have believed that three months ago Wiz joined the clan half starved and suffering from horrendous injuries and now thanks to the loving care of Alison and John he made his debut with the gang at their Awareness Assembly. With his scars barely visable this brave boy charmed the St. Ouen's beavers on Monday night. Joined by the regulars, Harlea also a former cruelty case, Malarky and the Fonz they once again worked their magic with the would be scouts.

We would like to apologise for the photos, the camera was on the wrong setting but we know the kids wanted their pictures on the site (no brownie points for Alison and I !!!) but we would assure you that all dogs do have bodies but they were cuddled from all sides so unfortunately they seem only to have a head.

New kid on the block Wiz, joins Malarky, Harlea and the Fonz

Harlea being a bit camera shy!!

St Mary's Beavers

The following Wednesday, the gang braved a cold wet night, this time to join the St Mary's Beavers. Once again it was the usual crowd, plus new recruit Wiz...and yet another new face? The youngest sanctuary girl Silks came to meet the children and certainly appeared to enjoy being a socialite.

Visits to Beavers and similar groups are often a little less formal than our school visits with there being less children and with them not having to rush back to lessons. This allows the children the opportunity to meet the dogs on a one to one basis. We get to meet the children personally and they're always eager to ask more questions.

Our talk began with a history of greyhounds through the ages up until today when we highlight the plight of retired racers. We then discussed how we try to find homes for the greyhounds BUT reinforcing the fact that owning a greyhound (as any breed of dog) is a big responsibilty. We asked the children to tell us what they thought a responsible owner needs to provide, hoping they'd suggest the items in our bucket. They then came out and stood with the dogs to show their item. This can be seen below, so look carefully for the item, they're not too easy to pick out in the photo.

The following photos show the children meeting the gang.

OUR THANKS GOES TO DAHILL FOR INVITING US AND TO ALL THE GIRLS AND BOYS FOR TAKING SUCH AN INTEREST - HOPEFULLY SEE YOU ALL AGAIN.
