COME RAIN
OR SHINE!

Niam reckons if you
can't have a dog of your own you can
always come and have a cuddle with a
rescue greyhound and in this case Malarky
was pleased to oblige
I remember fetes of previous
years when a tee shirt and shorts
sufficed but Saturday was nearly
cancelled due to such diabolical weather.
Prior to arriving at the school it was
hammering down and cold and the wind,
well we won't even go there. Danny had
got all our boards etc out and the first
lot of rain saw them come crashing down
our attemps to put covers over the
tombola and other merchancise proved
fruitless. Little Poppy, one of the kids
who we often see at the fetes, tried to
hold one side of the tarpaulin and me the
other in an effort to keep things dry but
the wind was so strong it just lifted.
These heavy bouts of rain came again and
I vowed one more and we were going to
call it a day.

Little Poppy in the
middle takes charge of the kid's tombola
Poppy proved to be worth her
weight in gold as she retrieved items
that went flying across the grounds and
also constantly wiped things dry and
pinned things back onto the boards that
had blown off. After the second downpour
we decided that all the boards would have
to go back into the trailer especially
after one fell and just missed landing on
my back - perhaps I should have read that
leaflet on 'Health and Safety'!!!
During the course of the day
both the adult and kids tombola and lucky
dip proved to be a big hit and the tennis
balls, well I wish I had a pal at
Wimbledon, as they were selling better
than anything.

Stacey, Miss St.
Ouen, came to say hello but Fonz got his
big head in the way

and Gump, having
been schooled by Fonz knows just how to
play up to his public!!
So despite the
dreadful weather we managed to get
through the day but only just! Mal and
Danny got drenched hooking up the van to
the trailer, Nicky, Peter and Flax, and
Steven, Donna and Woozle resembled
drowned rats as just as we had put
everything away the heavens opened. Peter
reckoned he was in trouble with Sue as he
had a coat but had left it in the van -
that's men for you. I am pleased to say I
had just got in the van and escaped it
all!!
