Silks joins
the clan.
It's always a shame when a
home doesn't work out and more of a pity
when it is down to house
training. Ruby (now Silks) is a
beautiful 19 month old, cat friendly, non
chaser. Good on a lead and good
with other dogs she was absolutely clean
at night, but when left there was a mess
to come back to. Unfortunately the
new owners found that they could not cope
with this and Silks has now come to join
the crew at the Greyhound
Sanctuary.

We would just like you to
know that no-one can predict how long a
dog will take 'to get the hang of
it'. You must remember these dogs
have been brought up in kennels and it's
the same as housetraining a puppy - it
doesn't happen over night. It's
patience, routine aswell as timing and 9
times out of 10 this comes good. So
please bear this in mind when you decide
to take on a rescue dog of any kind.
This is a problem that
occurs from time to time with all rescue
groups, so talk to other owners about
their experiences, there are many forums
where you can ask for advice and share
your experiences, 2 greyhound specific
ones are:
Greyhound Data
Clarks Farm
Greyhound Rescue
(You will need to register
first, but this is quite straightforward)
It is great way to exchange
methods until you discover the one that
works. We have an old dog called
Gunner who many of you may have seen on
our site. He spent the whole of his
life in a shed yet from the day he
arrived he has been absolutely clean -
his companion however Eccles, took over
three weeks to get it right - this is not
an exact science.
