THE GUYS HAVE A FIELD DAY

Is that a bunny we see!!!!

First crew back from their run

Ziggy, Podge, Hawk, Littlewoods, O.B., Gump and Star

For some years now we have been looking for a fenced in field to call our own but no luck we are still looking. Recently though we discovered a public field and are thrilled that we can now let some of the greyhounds off that otherwise are always on lead. To see them run (that's when they muster up the enthusiam) is just great but as we have always told you they are built for speed not stamina. One circuit and I don't get a peep out of them for at least 36 hours. Some of them don't even want to run but are quite happy to have a freedom saunter.

It's the most amazing sight to see these guys run and it gives the opportunity for some fantastic action shots, though we're still practising!

Our guys are always full of surprises, the horizontal Gump who has trouble getting his butt off the sofa apart from meal times and walk times, used his freedom to bomb round all four corners of the field and our little crippled Danny who is nearly ten, well suddenly his legs didn't hurt at all and like his brother explored all four corners with a possibility of 'grading in'.

As for Podge, well most of you will know that Podge is not good with other breeds but given his freedom did not move from our sides despite coaxing him with squeaky toys and a ball. All full of surprises, mind you had a rabbit passed by it might have been a different matter!!!!

It was a sheer delight to see our little shy Quinn race round with Kella, both thought they were back on the track and disappeared to the bottom of the field and returned at a near walk pace. Hawk and Malarky, well just ball crazy and both have mastered picking it up even with their muzzles on. The rest of them varied in how far or fast they wanted to run but I tell you our house was full of really exhausted pooches by the time we got back as I said earlier these dogs do not need a lot of exercise.

So Alison with her crew of greyhounds, whippets and lurchers, Donna with her lurchers and greyhound and Nicola with her greyhounds, whippets and retrievers have a very social outing once or twice a week and watch these beautiful hounds do what they do best.

To watch Elvis, Alison's three year old greyhound who had to have a front leg amputated earlier this year is just heart rending, to think this little mite was so desperately ill and now here he is running and I mean running round like a puppy.

Despite being able to use this place to run our gangs we would still desperately like to have a field we could call our own, either to rent or buy (at a very reasonable sum). Obviously it needs to be completely fenced in which we would be willing to do, so please, if there is anyone out there with such a field, could you contact us:

Since writing this article the sheep have now been put back into the field we use so we will now have to wait until they are moved again this is so disapointing so once again is there anyone out there that can help us?
