GREYHOUNDS
GATHER IN GUERNSEY
On Friday
July 5th the greyhound bus was packed
ready for an adventure to the not so far
off land of Guernsey. The weather
forecast, surprise surprise had been
dubious all week, but the boat was
sailing and that was good enough for us -
after all we did have a contingency plan
should the weather deteriorate.
We were
heading for the GSPCA Summer Fayre that
we had kindly been invited to. From the
dock we headed straight to the field to
erect our gazebo, which was certainly
swaying in the wind, thankfully we had a
wooden fence to secure it to, otherwise
it might have found its way back to
Jersey sooner than we anticipated!

There
was much to see and do, pony rides, dog
and small animal show, pet portraits,
show jumping and numerous stalls. What a
fantastic day and we hope that the GSPCA
raised much needed funds and would like
to thank Lorna Prince and the GSPCA team.
It
was only our 2nd show in Guernsey and
this was made all the more special by
visits from 6 of our greyhounds who we
have homed in Guernsey and their owners.
Firstly we caught up with Mick and Ruby.
Ruby is our most senior Guernsey girl, at
the age of 12. She really is one of the
originals. Her homing was as a result of
a visit from Channel Television and a
subsequent report on the news, way back
in 2000. Special thanks to Mick as he
spoilt us by being our personal guide and
showing us to the show field and our
hotel.

Mrs
Daff brought Joe to see us. What a
fantastic ambassador he is for
greyhounds. He's the perfect nuzzler and
by all accounts is quite a star in his
neighbourhood, it was very easy to see
why.

Next
came Alfie and Barney with their
families, what a stunning pair these
brindle dogs made. Alfie's transformation
from when he first arrived was
incredible. The aloof fluffy lad has
become a sleek, loving stunner (left).
And puppy Barney? Well the photo below
speaks for itself, just such a cracking
youngster (right).
Congratulations
to Barney who won the 'Best Rescue Dog'
class of the dog show, what a clever lad.
He took it all in his stride and wore his
rosette with pride.

Another
rosette winner of the day was Maisie, who
came 2nd in the 'Prettiest Bitch'
category. Maisie is unique in that she is
our only blue greyhound that we have
homed out of 117!

Lily
brought her family along. Her and her
brother Milo the staffie looked quite a
sight together - little and large!

A
big thank you to all our owners who took
the trouble to come and visit us, it was
great to see you all.
Finally
we must mention the extremely warm
welcome that both humans and dogs alike
received from Maggi and all at the Hotel
Dunchoille. The dogs really were made to
feel at home and they enjoyed meeting the
resident labs Pascoe and Hardy. Thanks
Maggi, we will be back!
