  OUR GREAT GUERNSEY GATHERING

On Friday July 3rd the greyhound bus was loaded up ready for our road trip to Guernsey in order to attend the GSPCA Summer Fayre the following day. This was a fantastic opportunity to not only promote greyhounds but also catch up with our Guernsey owners and their hounds.

Our usual 'show team' Larky, Fonz, Harlea and Wiz were there along with Malcolm, Jude and myself (Alison).

With a 5 hour ferry delay we didn't arrive until 2015 and thanks to Amber's Dad Mick escorting us we headed straight to the showground to set up the stand in preparation for the next day. Next stop was the Hotel Dunchoille where both us and the dogs were treated like VIPs.

Outside the hotel along with Amber and Jean (Amber's Mum)

We woke on Saturday to another glorious day, though were pleased to see some patchy cloud which did eventually give us a brief sprinkling of rain. At 11am the show was officially open and so began a busy day, with the dogs pulling in the crowds.

Our stand at the show

We were delighted to see so many of our Guernsey owners and are grateful to them for bringing their hounds to see us, all of which were a credit to their owners. We made the most of the opportunity and took lots of photos...

Bindy with Mum Ashleigh - currently living with a litter of kittens! Homed in December 07

Joe, a local celebrity - homed February 07

Dax sporting a rosette which he'd won that morning at an agility/obedience show. Pictured with Mum, Jennifer and Sandy

Duke, one of the biggest greyhounds I've met, and Duke with Bubbles and their Mum and Dad Sue & Rob

Bubbles had scared herself jumping out the car as the lead was under her leg - she decided that she wasn't going to risk it again and chose to stay in the car.

Fly homed in February this year, a real character who loved wooing the public

Rufus, our first Guernsey homing this year.

We were so proud of Rufus as he won the 'Best Rescue' class at the show, the competition was tough with many deserving dogs.

We'd also like to thank Rufus's human sister Natasha, as she'd been very busy selling some of her belongings at a car boot sale and very kindly donated her takings to us.

Roxy a more recent homing & Rufus

The show was also a great opportunity for Guernsey greyhound owners to meet each other.

Willy (white & black) & Alfie (brindle) both became Guernsey residents last year

Rosie a new Guernsey recruit who arrived last month still fluffy with a supersoft kennel coat

Before we knew it 5 o'clock arrived and it was time to pack up and head back to the harbour for our return trip which thankfully was on time. We had a fabulous day and both humans and dogs certainly slept well Saturday night.

Many thanks to GSPCA for inviting us and congratulations to them for organising such a successful event.
