The
loss of our 2 fawn sanctuary dogs.
Paris
Paris,
Bambi, Peter Pan, just a few of the names we
called our girl. Paris could charm the
birds from the trees and frequently did!!! - She
could wrap anyone round her little paw.
Prospective owners would take one look at her and
say 'we would really love one like that' but
Paris was a one off, exceptionally small for
her breed we never really knew her
background. She was fine with other dogs,
cats anything in fact and was always off her
lead, doing her own thing. No-one was
overlooked when she was out she would prance over
for a love and a pat and that cold nose
would poke you until you gave her sufficient
strokes.
She looked
so young you would have thought she was 3 or
4 with the most magnificant brown eyes always
heavily made up (well she was a gal) she was
never ill and up until about 10 days ago still
tearing about on the beach albeit a bit stiff in
the back. When she collapsed on the beach
the Monday before last, even the vet at that time
thought there was no cause for alarm and when she
responded to the steroid jab we thought things
would be fine.
Alas this
was not to be as on Monday she collapsed at home
and after a steroid and a morphine jab, neither
could control the horrific pain she was in
and upon advice from our vet we did the
kindest thing and let her go. It was
suspected that there was a tumour somewhere on
her spine. We know that doing what we
do the pain of losses will always be there
but it never becomes any easier and of course
when you have older dogs there will always be
that time.
We thought
Paris was invincible but deep down we know none
of them are. We still imagine you running
about the beach looking for loves and hope that
you will be doing the same when you
cross over to the famous Rainbow
Bridge. Good bless you Paris.
Ocean

It seemed like
Ocean's career was mapped out for him.
Racing under the name of That's my Boy his
trainer thought he was on a winner - this
dog was going places. However, it was not
to be, Ocean took an injury to his wrist
which was to end his racing days at the grand old
age of 3. He was a clever old dog
so we sometimes wonder if he took the tumble
on purpose. Anyway we ended up bringing him
to Jersey in 1998 where he lived a contented life
with Carl and Louise and Cara his sister
greyhound.
Due to a break up,
and so as Ocean wouldn't have to spend time
alone, he came to live with us here at the
Sanctuary by which time his back was giving him
problems. A tumble which led to him losing
his hip didn't do him any favours but he was up
for anything and still enjoyed life to the
full. Earlier this year failing kidneys
caused a dramatic weight loss but he was still
happy, enjoying his walks. Sadly a few days
ago his old injury to the wrist in his front
leg began giving him a lot of pain and
because he relied on his front legs he was having
severe problems getting himself up. The
look on his face was one we have seen many
times. We needed to give him the final
kindness so at 8.20am on Wednesday
24th January 2008, Ocean went to join
all his pals.
Run free Ocean.
