There are no fences in heaven and no-one wants to leave, There are no thunderstorms in heaven therefore fear is never present There are no fights in heaven every dog lives in peace There is no hunger, there is no thirst, there is no pain, For heaven is a place of peace and comfort a lasting forever home. ................................................................... God's Angels We're put on this earth to do what we can To be kind to all animals and our fellow man, Some do this well and some can't do it at all But a few special folk do hear Gods call. The folk that take in all Gods waifs and strays Give them love and care till the end of their days They're special beyond the words I can reach They just get on and do - have no need to preach But as each waif passes on to live at Gods side Another small part of the carers' heart dies For to give so much love is a selfless thing When you know from the start the pain it will bring. So although right now the pain is still raw, Take heart from knowing it's you they adore And when your turn comes in the fullness of time The dogs that you loved will be waiting in line. 'Till then they'll be close, not far from your side They'll lick away tears that fall from your eyes And when you feel the bed dip in the night Know that they're with you - just out of sight. For the love that you shared can never die It's only farewell, never goodbye The dogs that you love, you will meet again 'Till that time arrives they're your faithful friends ........................................................ Running Free A gentle spirit, full of love died on the track last night. He ran his race and did his best, then ran into the 'light' The gentle 'light' held so much love and freed him from his pain, He'll never have to try and win, or run the tracks again. His spirit's free and now he runs through fields with all his kind, Where all he'll know is peace and love, not cruelty from mankind. ................................................................. The spirit of a Greyhound I was standing on a hillside In a field of blowing wheat, And the spirit of a Greyhound Was lying at my feet He looked at me with kind dark eyes, Ancient wisdom shining through In the essence of his being. I saw such love there too. His mind locked upon my heart As I stood there on that day And he told me of this story About a place so far away As I stood upon that hillside In a field of blowing wheat, In a twinkling of a second His spirit left my feet His tale put my heart at ease; All my fears did fade away, About what lay ahead of me On another distant day. "I live among God's creatures now In the heavens of your mind, So do not grieve for me my friend, As I am with my kind. My collar is a rainbow's hue; My leash is a shooting star, My boundaries are the Milky Way Where I sparkle from afar There are no pens or kennels here For I am not confined, But I'm free to roam God's heavens, Among the Greyhound kind I nap the day on a snowy cloud, Gentle breezes rocking me And dream the dreams of earthlings And how it used to be. The trees are full of liver treats, And tennis balls abound, And milk bones line the walkways Just waiting to be found. There is even a ring set up, The grass all lush and green; And everyone who gaits around Becomes the Best of Breed. For we're all winners in this place; We have no faults, you see And God passes out those ribbons To each one, even me. I drink from waters laced with gold, My world a beauty to behold; And wise old dogs form my pride To amble at my very side. At night I sleep in an angel's arms, Her wings protecting me, And moonbeams dance about us, Just as stardust falls on thee. So when your life on earth is spend And you stand at Heaven's gate, Have no fear of loneliness-- For here, you know, I wait ............................................................... Our last goodbye I know the meaning of sorrow, I know how it feels to cry, It broke my heart when I lost you, As I whispered my last goodbye. You were my loyal companion, Right to the bitter end. No one could ever replace you, My loyal, trusting friend. I have many happy memories Of walking in the park. You really were quite beautiful, Elegant and dark. Your eyes grew dim, you couldn't run You tried but you were weak, I kissed your face then you were gone And tears rolled down my cheeks. Goodbye old friend, it won't be long Until we meet again. Just wait for me on 'Rainbow Bridge' My faithful trusting friend. .......................................................... Rainbow Bridge 'Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies who has been especially close to some one here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigour; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who has been left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks in the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver, Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.....' ................................................... These are just a few poems taken from www.greyhoundmuses.com I hope you enjoyed reading them and they didn't upset you too much. There are many more on the above website but I've run out of tissues to put anymore on our site! G&M Hickmott 2007© |
