JERSEY'S
O.A.P. GREYHOUNDS
I know we had an
article on 'oldies' a while back but we
thought it would be nice to show you how
well the latest senior pooches are doing.

Littlewoods
We welcomed
Littlewoods to the Island just before
Christmas, he was to be our Christmas
Special. Littlewoods is 12 years old and
although he had been in a home his owner
decided she no longer wanted him and
dumped him in a field. Although in good
condition if he had remained in kennels
he would have quickly deteriorated
especially with the savage winter we have
had and at his age. If you would like to
meet him just give us a ring.

Toggle
Then there was the
arrival of Toggle a very handsome older
man of 12, he arrived at the end of
January with Zoe an elderly lass aged 11.
He had been owned by a couple and when
they split up and the man refused to give
the dog to his partner she managed to
take him and sign him over to the Trust
after discovering he was being left for
sometimes 15 hours a day. He was very
under weight and was in foster until we
brought him over. It was Donna to the
rescue - you know Donna the mad
veterinary nurse with the even madder
family who jump out of planes and have
their hair chopped off. Anyway Toggle now
joins her family of four lurchers and
will age gracefully with Wispa her 11
year old lurcher also rescued two years
ago and in a very poor state. The two old
boys are now enjoying their walks
together at a slower pace of life.

Toggle and Wispa
meet for the first time

Zoe
Zoe, well her story
is sad, although we think she must have
been in a home at some time, she was
found wandering the streets in Poole and
taken into the Poole Rescue centre then
transported up to Shropshire and Borders
RGT where she has been in kennels for the
past year. Zoe not only had age against
her (she is 11) but is black and this is
the colour hardest to home even when
younger so poor little mite didn't have a
lot going for her until Aunty Al brought
her back with Toggle to become her
Christmas Special albeit a little late.
Zoe has a few medical problems, her hips
and back are pretty bad and she has an
eye condition called Progressive Retinal
Atrophy. Her eyesight is not good and she
probably only sees shapes and shadows but
is such an affectionate happy little girl
despite her past.
So there you have
it, three new oldies join Dilly our
little bitch of nearly 15 who we have had
for just two years. She is an old lady
now and time is precious but we wouldn't
have been without her or indeed Alison's
Mr. Padz and our Eccles and Gunner and
many more who have joined us in their
twilight years but sadly are no longer
with us.

only 'gal' in the front Zoe
So once again we
ask you to consider the more mature hound
but not without a great deal of thought.
Together with age can go health problems
and also insurance companies will be
reluctant to cover you and even if they
do the premiums would be through the
roof. Plus the time these dogs will be
with you will be limited so there are
many facts to weigh up. However, if you
think you could deal with this please do
not hesitate to give us a ring on

or email us.
