P.A.T. dogs

Malarky and Fonz visit Phil 101 years young at Clifton Nursing Home

For those of you who are unsure Pets as Therapy (PAT) is a national charity founded in l983. It is unique in that it provides therapeutic visits to hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes, special needs schools and a variety of other venues by volunteers with their own friendly, temperament tested and vaccinated dogs and cats.

Please visit their website to find out more about their great work:

www.petsastherapy.org.uk

Over the past 4 years Greyhound Rescue has had 6 of their greyhounds registered as P.A.T. dogs. Unfortunately Pyder Mann, Turk and Awesome are no longer with us and Rio has had to retire due to being diagnosed with epilepsy a couple of years ago.

So now it is down to Malarky and Fonz who visit Clifton Nursing Home on a regular basis and are quite famous there

On occasions, when one of the PAT dog owners is away on holiday, they also get to go to Mont a l'Abbe school to stand in for Kent a very large English Pointer and visits to Lakeside Residential Home, Clinique Pinel at St. Saviours Hospital have also been venues.

Twice a year a day in town is arranged in aid of the charity and it's great to see all the different dogs mingling together and indeed to inform people of what these dogs do.

Some of the PAT dogs assemble for a charity walk

Over the years the public have contributed so generously to Greyhound Rescue, we felt this was just a small way that we could put something back into the community.

Our wonderful PAT dogs Fonz and Malarky

Hopefully sometime this year we will be registering another couple of our dogs as Malarky and Fonz do need a break every so often they work so hard for our Charity and indeed for P.A.T. dogs
