P.A.T. dogs
Above P.A.T. dogs Buffy, Fonz and
Malarky just three of the team of Pets as Therapy
dogs in Jersey. Malarky and Fonz await the
arrival of many other P.A.T. dogs for a sponsored
walk through the streets of St. Helier.
We're
very proud to announce that at the end of last
year 5 of our sanctuary hounds were assessed and
accepted as Pets As Therapy dogs. These 5 were:

For
those of you who are unsure Pets as Therapy (PAT)
is a national charity founded in l983. It is
unique in that it provides therapeutic visits to
hospitals, hospices, nursing and care homes,
special needs schools and a variety of other
venues by volunteers with their own friendly,
temperament tested and vaccinated dogs and cats.
Please
visit their website to find out more about their
great work:

So
far Pyder Mann has been guest of honour at
Lakeside Residential Home, Clinique Pinel at St
Saviours Hospital and Mont a l'Abbe school. His
duties at Clinique Pinel were shared with Patsie
a very pretty Sheltie and his visit to
Mont-a-l'Abbe school gave him the opportunity to
make another new pal, namely a very large English
Pointer called Kent. It was very rewarding to see
the children's reactions to them both.
Awesome
made his debut at St. Saviour's hospital
attending the Alzheimers ward, which was so so
sad. Malarky, well, he did his bit at the
Ronceray Retirement Home and was fed multiple
biscuits for his trouble. They thoroughly enjoyed
all the attention and especially the extra treats
and had to remember not to tell the others when
they got home!! . As usual they were a credit to
us, we are always so proud of them.
Turk
and Rio have yet to make an appearance but watch
this spot for details of where they will be in
the near future.
Well
Turk got to make his presence known at the
Clifton Nursing Home and he was greeted with open
arms literally. It is a massive place with very
tall ceilings and the residents have lovely
rooms. Some of them were very elderly but their
faces lit up when our big lad walked in. Many of
them had photos of pooches they had owned beside
their beds and they all made Turk feel very
special. With the rooms being on three floors,
and it being Turks first time, we thought it
prudent to take the lift. Turk lives in a
bungalow so three flights of stairs was a bit of
a tall order (greyhounds are not used to stairs
and some do have a problem with them). We were
there for just under an hour and will be
returning on the regular basis in the future -
Rio might get to go next time - he hasn't made an
appearance as yet and is anxious to know what he
is missing out on.
FONZ JOINS THE TEAM
It is with mixed emotions
that we welcome Fonz as one of our new P.A.T.
dogs. Many of you will be aware that our
magnificant Awesome lost his battle against bone
cancer last month but Fonz will be following in
his footsteps and we are sure that he will take
his post seriously and prove to be another hit
with the residents of the homes he visits.

Over
the years the public have contributed so
generously to Greyhound Rescue, we felt this was
just a small way that we could put something back
into the community.
